The Best Acoustic Guitar for You

Updated on February 14, 2013

Here are 5 of the Best Acoustic Guitars You Will Find for Sale!

There are many acoustic guitars for sale at reasonable prices. Which one is best for you? Here, I describe five that are top rated by Amazon customers:

  • the Seagull S6
  • the Yamaha FG700S
  • the Cordoba C5,which is the one illustrated here
  • the Jasmine S34C NEX by Takamine
  • and
  • the Jasmine S35 by Takamine.

I've added videos to give you more of a sense of these guitars, though of course the players vary in skills.

Besides Amazon links, you will find links to Musician's Friend here. It's worth comparing prices, though Amazon will almost always have the better prices. But MF will typically have more reviews. They carry used acoustic guitars as well. Photo credit: Amazon.com

Seagull S6 Acoustic Guitar

People really like the Seagull S6. As I read reviews, over and over I read how they liked its sound and its playability. They look forward to playing it for many years. They feel that as their skills improve, the S6 will continue to be great for them.

It seems to me that if you listened to recordings of the top rated guitars without knowing which was which, the wonderful tone would make you choose this as the best acoustic guitar, and that's out of a field of very good brands.

It's very well made, and in Canada. It's beautiful.

Maybe I should have stopped writing this page right here! People really love this guitar.

Yamaha FG700S Acoustic Guitar

The FG700S is a great guitar. Its sound is amazing, and it is very easy to play. So you could say that it's the best acoustic guitar for beginners, especially at its low price. Experienced guitar players like it enough to often buy one for their kids.

It is well built, with good craftsmanship and it holds up well under heavy use. It stays in tune really well. It would be hard to find a better guitar for the price.

Click to check it out at Musician's Friend. They have other models too.

Cordoba C5 Classical Guitar

Reading the Cordoba 5 reviews was something of a duplication of the reviews for the Seagull S6 and the Yamaha FG700S. People love this and say it has a wonderful sound. It's good looking and well made. They even like the carrying bag that comes with it!

This is a good acoustic guitar for beginners. Some music teachers recommend it to their students over more expensive guitars.

It's made in China, but evidently the Chinese have improved their skills, as people are happy with the look and the construction. Here is a link to Musician's Friend. They carry a lot of used ones as well as the new ones.

Jasmine By Takamine S34C NEX Acoustic Guitar

The Jasmine By Takamine S34C NEX Acoustic Guitar costs a lot less than the ones I've reviewed so far, and it has more customer reviews at both places. As you might expect from such an inexpensive guitar, it has some mixed reviews but still ends up with a good overall score. Takamine is known for good higher-end guitars, and the Jasmine S34C NEX draws on that. People tend to like its sound.

Here it is at Musician's Friend:

Jasmine By Takamine S34c Nex Cutaway Acoustic Guitar

Jasmine by Takamine S35 Acoustic Guitar, Natural

Costing even less than the the previous Jasmine, this guitar seems to be inconsistent in how well it is made, if you read through the reviews. Its sound isn't considered as good as the Jasmine By Takamine S34C NEX Acoustic Guitar.

But a lot of people like this one. I would only recommend it for beginners or for taking hard knocks while you travel with it. Here's a link to Musician's Friend:

Buying an Acoustic Guitar Online

Because of the good prices and return policies at Amazon and Musician's Friend, a lot of people buy acoustic guitars online.

Amazon lets you return most musical instruments, and so do most sellers, within 30 days of when you get them. Keep everything, as you will need to use the original packaging and to return any accessories, You will need the serial number or UPC code. They need to be in new condition.

Musician's Friend gives you 45 days and emphasizes that the instrument must be in totally new condition.

Check them both out! Amazon links are all over this page. Here is one to Musician's Friend:

Everything for Guitarists, at the Best Prices in Town!

Please note that if you click through to Amazon.com from here and if you buy something, Squidoo and I may share a commission, at no cost to you. Clicking on some of the other links might also yield me some commission. I appreciate the income, as it enables me to spend time doing writing like this.
